Geriatric Care – NICHE Program

OSU Medical Center knows that being in the hospital can be an overwhelming experience. When an older adult is admitted to OSU Medical Center, they become part of the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders or NICHE program.

OSU Medical Center is one of the three NICHE Programs in Oklahoma and the largest osteopathic teaching hospital in the country.

OSUMC is striving to be the Gerontological Center of Excellence in Oklahoma.

We have several nationally certified and duly certified nurses in critical care and gerontology who provide excellent, professional care for you. Our nurses understand the special needs of older adults and we hope this puts your mind at ease. Our goal is to have older adults, who are placed in our care, return home as independently as possible.

NICHE Hospital Designation places OSU Medical Center as a front-runner in Northeastern Oklahoma for care of the patient 65 years and older by:

• Ongoing geriatric nursing assessment from an Advanced practice Nurse
• A team of geriatric Resource Nurses
• A nursing care plan designed specifically for you and your loved one
